What is craniosacral therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that developed from osteopathic principles. It involves very light touch, with the practitioner paying attention to subtle movements and rhythms within the body.
The approach is non-invasive and uses minimal pressure. When provided by a suitably trained and experienced practitioner, many parents consider it a calm and supportive option for babies and young children.
How a session works
Sessions are designed to be relaxed and child-led. The practitioner uses light, gentle contact, always adapting to your child’s comfort and needs.
For babies and young children, appointments typically last around 30-45 minutes. Your child can remain in a position that feels most comfortable, whether lying on a treatment couch, sitting on your lap, or being held.
Gentle support for everyday comfort
Parents often explore craniosacral therapy as a form of supportive care, with the aim of encouraging relaxation, comfort and ease of movement in their child’s everyday experience. Many families find this gentle approach reassuring, particularly during early infancy.
Craniosacral therapy is offered as a complementary, intended to work alongside your child’s existing healthcare and wellbeing support.
What to expect
• An initial conversation to understand your child’s current situation and your hopes for the session
• Treatment adapted to your child’s individual comfort and responses
• Parents are welcome to take part in the session by playing with their baby or child, helping them feel comfortable and settled throughout the session.
If, during our discussions, it becomes clear that your child’s needs may be better addressed by medical or other specialist care, we will encourage you to speak with your GP, midwife, health visitor or paediatrician.
Booking and questions
If you would like to find out whether craniosacral therapy may be a helpful support for your baby or child, you are welcome to book a short, no-obligation conversation with a practitioner. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the approach.
